In response to the affordable housing crisis BAY TREE DESIGN, working as part of the design team with Studio T Square created plans for redeveloping this vacant to be an affordable housing complex managed and developed by SAHA.

The landscape is designed as a buffer against the busy street traffic on San Pablo and the communal space of the housing complex and is envisioned to be a space where residents may find respite from their busy lives. The brightly patterned courtyard space with intimately spaced picnic tables facilitates chance interactions with neighbors, as well as cozy gatherings with friends and family. Trees, selected for their low water-usage and consistent year-round aesthetic appeal, will grow to provide over 50% shade coverage of the site. Residents can elect to grow their own food in the community garden beds provided behind the building.
