Container Built Community Gathering Hub
Designs for this community gathering hub aim to transform an abandoned gas station site, located on a heavily trafficked Oakland street-corner, into a thriving community amenity. Container built incubator spaces for local food-oriented businesses surround outdoor courtyard spaces which will host exercise classes, small outdoor concerts by local artists, and other opportunities for artists, activists, and community groups.
As part of this revitalization project, the sites’ trees and other plantings have been chosen to specifically provide phyto-remediation and phyto-buffering via stormwater capture and particulate matter filtering to create a healthier environment. The application of this planting method will improve the soil, water, and air quality for the site and its surrounding areas.
