SAHA + Choice in Aging + Choice in Learning Pleasant Hill Campus Plan
Two non-profits are partnering to create the first age in place campus in the U.S. This four-acre campus includes 82 units of affordable senior housing, adult day care (including a memory care, Russian speaking, and Farsi speaking units), and a future clinic with assisted living. This campus has an intergenerational bonus of a Montessori preschool where the curriculum intentionally pairs seniors with the preschoolers for benefits for both generations. The buildings are sited to retain existing site oaks and create a community commons in the central part of the campus. Each building has specific outdoor spaces that provide the residents, patients, and students with designated indoor/outdoor spaces that meld into the shared therapeutic gardens, Gingko allée, lawn, gazebo, and vegetable garden and orchard. The entire site is designed to foster independence in aging and community among the different building users from the design of the site furnishings to the selection of the paving and plantings.
