San Ramon Valley Christian Academy - Early Childhood Education Yard

In the middle of the pandemic, the school asked BAY TREE DESIGN to redevelop their outdoor space to support their student’s development with natural spaces that fostered creative, restorative, and collaborative play and hands-on learning. 

Working closely with a committee, BTD developed the space to be a series of three outdoor rooms or one large room with removable flexible “dividers”. The main focus for site programming was to provide opportunities and graduated challenges for children from Pre-K through Kindergarten. Additional site programming included considering how the yard will be used by Elementary children for aftercare and during church services on the weekend. With this idea in mind, some of the landscape elements can be used for story telling from the Olive grove, to the “mountain”, to the “desert” sands.
