SF Botanical Garden Nature Exploration Zone
The San Francisco Botanical Garden had a clear goal to intentionally transform 7.5 acres at the west end of the garden into a place where children could interact with the unique nature of San Francisco. Working with a committee and the community BAY TREE DESIGN developed a conceptual framework for the site that interlaced immersive experiences in five plant communities such as chaparral scrub and an ephemeral creek, with rolling terrain and several outdoor classrooms. The design provides educational opportunities and memorable experiences for children from the built and Cultivated Core at the entry to the purposefully natural and wild feeling areas meant to foster a love of nature and lifelong bond with plants.
