Prospect Sierra Middle School

The landscape renovation of Prospect Sierra Middle School was built upon the school’s values of Love, Justice, Impact and Innovation. Spaces were foremost created to foster inclusivity and connection, building community strength and resilience. The nature-based design encourages the holistic development of all students, supporting both imaginative play and self-regulation. Educational opportunities were co-created with Prospect Sierra teachers, highlighting and growing local ecologies.

Considerations to the area in the limit of work will include the following:

- the future building footprint (2,000 to 4,000 square feet),

- setbacks determined by the City of El Cerrito (see map with estimate - need to confirm with City),

- vehicular access - maintenance for school and possibly EV, and

- access to the City park.

Additional opportunities for the site include:

- capturing and connecting to regional views,

- extending the adjacent Oak woodland onto the site,

- working with the park adjacency,

- extending and celebrating the garden, and

- refining the topography.
